Mauritania and Tchad

The community-centered initiative in Mauritania and Tchad

Since 2021, Vaccine & Care For All Kids has launched a community-centered initiative to eliminate meningitis as a major health threat in sub-Saharan Africa. Focused on the African Meningitis Belt—where seasonal outbreaks devastate vulnerable populations—this program combines preventive healthcare, emergency response, and local empowerment to break the cycle of epidemics.

Our model prioritizes grassroots collaboration, ensuring solutions are culturally adapted, sustainable, and owned by the communities we serve.

Concret actions :

  • Free, large-scale vaccination campaigns in high-risk zones, targeting children under 5, adolescents, and displaced populations.

  • Training frontline workers: Equipping nurses, midwives, and community health agents with skills in case management, infection control, and outbreak response.

  • Engaging traditional healers: Bridging modern medicine with indigenous practices to reduce delays in seeking care.

  • Vaccine confidence programs: Training local leaders, imams, and women’s groups to address misinformation and encourage uptake

Research and long-term Resilience :

  • Epidemiological studies: Tracking new meningitis strains and climate links (e.g., dust storms, dry seasons).

  • Community-led data collection: Using simple digital tools to monitor outbreaks in real time

  • Vaccination campaigns in the cities of Kaedi, Tahoua, Garaou and Agadez.

  • 2 mobile vaccination and training facilities offering WHO-standard training in case management, infection control, and outbreak response.

  • Certified courses with hands-on drills and digital follow-ups.
